HOW TO GET TO YAMADASAN SKI LODGE
From Tokyo to Yamadasan Ski Lodge in 3 Easy Steps
Already in Tokyo? Skip Step 1 and jump straight to the Shinkansen — you’re only a couple of hours from the snow!
Step 1: Arrive in Tokyo
Choose either Narita or Haneda Airport — both connect easily to the Shinkansen.
From Narita Airport (NRT):
– Take the Keisei Skyliner to Ueno Station (approx. 1 hour)
– Transfer to the Hokuriku Shinkansen
From Haneda Airport (HND):
– Take the Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho Station
– Transfer to Tokyo Station via the JR Yamanote Line (approx. 20 minutes)
Step 2: Take the Hokuriku Shinkansen
– Board the “Hakutaka” Hokuriku Shinkansen at Tokyo Station or Ueno Station
– Travel to Iiyama Station (approx. 110 minutes)
– Trains run frequently throughout the day
– Buy tickets at the station or online — no rail pass needed
Step 3: Transfer to Madarao / Yamadasan
– From Iiyama Station, at the bottom of the escalators to the left, purchase a bus/shuttle ticket to Madarao Mountain
The Bus services to Madarao Kogen. Bus services are limited — please check the latest schedule:
– Arrival: Iiyama ➡ Madarao
– Departure: Madarao ➡ Iiyama

Coming from Osaka or Kyoto
Travelling from the Kansai region (Osaka, Kyoto, etc.)? Here’s how to reach Yamadasan:
- Take the Limited Express Thunderbird from Osaka or Kyoto to Kanazawa (approx. 2.5 hours)
- Transfer at Kanazawa to the Hokuriku Shinkansen
- Travel to Iiyama Station (approx. 1 hour)
- Then follow Step 3 above to reach Madarao

– No transfers or train navigation required

Driving to Yamadasan
Planning to rent a car?
– Approx. 3.5–4 hours from Tokyo via the Kan-Etsu Expressway
– Snow tyres or chains are essential in winter
– There is no on-site parking at Yamadasan
– However, street parking is available nearby and out the front
